Mike Oborny Earns ALA Certified Lighting Consultant Designation

Co-owner of Dallas-based Focus Design Company Mike Oborny is the latest ALA member to earn his Certified Lighting Consultant (CLC) designation. The CLC is ALA’s highest designation and requires members to complete and pass a total home blueprint lighting design exam.

Mike and his son, Mitchel, started Focus Design Company with the intent of providing exceptional lighting solutions by integrated world-class luminaries and control systems with meticulously crafted lighting design.

Prior to founding Focus Design, Mike spent 20 years as the president of a residential home audio video company. The lessons he learned in user control and extraordinary reliability have become they keystone for Focus Design.

Mike holds a finance degree from Oklahoma State University and has spent his life educating himself through both formal training and on-site experiments. His training includes multiple CEDIA certifications including an ESC-D Design certification, plus extensive Lutron Homeworks, Ketra, and shade certifications.

In addition to the blueprint exam, the ALA CLC designation requires members to become an ALA Lighting Specialist (LS) by training and passing an exam on the Residential Lighting Training Manual. Additional, CLCs must complete required hours of training, which vary based on their years of industry experience.
