In Memoriam: Herman Lebersfeld
Beloved industry veteran Herman Lebersfeld, 86, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2025, in Boca Raton, Fla. Herman served as Co-chairman of the Board at Capitol Lighting before his passing.
With a lifetime of history in the lighting industry, Herman grew up working in his family showroom, Capitol Lighting, in Newark, N.J.; then going to work full-time for the company’s East Orange location.
Today, Capitol Lighting has eight brick-and-mortar locations in New Jersey, Florida, and North Carolina, as well as an online retail store, 1-800Lighting.com. With the belief that being a good businessperson means giving back, Capitol Lighting is recognized for their philanthropic efforts, supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America, and the American Cancer Society.
"I was deeply saddened to hear about Herman's passing. I had the honor and the pleasure of personally knowing Herman for some 30 years,” said Larry Lauck, ALA president and CEO. “He was a man with great vision for the lighting industry and was always most supportive of ALA having served on various committees. I feel blessed that I got to talk to him at the ALA Conference last September. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Lebersfeld family during this difficult time."
Herman is survived by his wife, Adele; children, Eric (Susan), Kenneth (Jamie), and Joan (Michael); grandchildren, Daniel (Alisha), Jane (DavidJack), Jacob (Rebekah), Jenna, Alexa, Jacky, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Madison, Sophia, and Chase; siblings, Max (Debra) and Gloria.
Memorial contributions may be made in Herman’s honor to the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, Temple Beth El of Boca Raton, or Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County.
A chapel service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach, Fla., with a burial to follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens. The service will also be webcast here.
