Harnessing the Power of Observation to Make a Lasting Difference

Through his compelling and courageous story of survival, discovery and humanitarianism, Derreck Kayongo, founder of Global Soap Project, and CEO of Center for Civil and Human Rights, will set out to energize ALA Conference attendees and change the way they identify and approach issues. Kayongo is a Ugandan refugee, turned successful entrepreneur, human rights activist and renowned global health expert whose professional and personal successes have been recognized by many notable groups and individuals.

During his presentation, Kayongo will explore his story and guiding principles, which he has coined S.E.L.F, standing for service, education, leadership and faith. He will bring S.E.L.F to life in an emotionally packed presentation that will stay with members long after his closing remarks.

ALA President and CEO Eric Jacobson first saw Kayongo at the 2016 American Society of Association Executives Meeting and Exposition. “Derreck’s story is truly inspiring,” said Jacobson. “His message is one that will encourage ALA members to harness their own strengths to improve themselves both personally and professionally. We are fortunate to have such an experienced speaker join us for the 2017 Conference, and I am certain attendees will leave having gained new ideas to implement in their daily lives.”
