ALA June Lightovation Schedule Announced

This June during Lightovation, ALA is hosting various events focused on bringing members together. In addition to the association's post in The SMART Center (TM 4826), you'll find the team hanging out in the ALA pop-up lounge on the Trade Mart 4th floor atrium, near the escalators. ALA will be hosting networking events, live music, giveaways, and much more. Plus, the association is running two seminars with renowned instructor Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, IESNA, as well as various committee meetings during and before the event.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22

Women in Lighting Reception and WILLA Ceremony
4:30 - 5:45 p.m. 
ALA Pop-up Lounge, TM 4th Floor Atrium

Everyone is invited to join the ALA Women in Lighting for refreshments and live music! Don't miss the chance to connect with the women leading the lighting industry. At 5:30, help us celebrate 2022 Women in Lighting Leadership Award (WILLA) honoree, Kellee Hollenback Hammond. Plus, we're giving away a free delegate registration to the 2022 ALA Conference in Austin! 
 

Showroom of the Year Awards Pre-event Reception & Awards Ceremony

Head around the corner from the ALA pop-up lounge, grab a drink and mingle with your fellow industry members during the 2022 Showroom of the Year Awards reception and ceremony. Presented by Furniture, Lighting & Décor in partnership with Lightovation and Dallas Market Center, these awards recognize outstanding lighting retailers across North America. 
 

Celebration of Life for Harry Kallick

Join your industry peers and the team from Varaluz as we gather to celebrate the life of beloved industry member, Harry Kallick, who passed away this April at the age of 78. Widley recognized as an icon in the decorative lighting industry, Harry is known for his incredible vision and leadership he brought to companies like Kalco Lighting and Varaluz.

What's New in Smart Home and Integrated Home Awards Recognition

Join ALA Director of Engineering Terry McGowan and Chloe Mayhew from the Consortium for Energy Efficiency as they present the latest trends in smart home products that emerged from entries in the 2021 Integrated Home Competition. Learn more about the winning products and the directions they represent in this growing category.
 

SEMINAR
Fundamentals and Advanced Applications of Smart Homes and Lighting Controls Integration
Speaker: Joseph A. Rey-Barreau, AIA, IESNA

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:
     - understand the fundamentals of smart homes, lighting controls integration, and home automation systems;
     - obtain a better understanding of this highly fragmented component of the lighting industry;
     - understand the basics of how to integrate decorative lighting, architectural lighting, motorized shading, and A/V technology with a lighting control system and other home automation systems;
     - identify client priorities related to lighting integration with smart home and home automation systems; and
     - evaluate a variety of smart home devices, systems and apps (Lutron control systems, Control4, Creston, Google Home, Phillips Hue, plus others).

The Art and Science of Accent Lighting: How to Apply Accent Lighting Techniques Across a Range of Home Types and Budgets

     - understand the fundamentals of the art and science of accent lighting and art lighting;
     - evaluate client needs and identify opportunities for how accent lighting can be applied in every home project;
     - explain to the client how specific techniques, such as grazing, wall washing, and focal points can enhance their home environment; and
     - apply a broad range of lighting products, such as recessed, track, specialty, and decorative, to achieve accent and art lighting objectives.

Come meet the future leaders of the lighting industry during the ALA Young Executives Event. Enjoy refreshments and a live, acoustic performance by Danni & Kris as a kick-off to their Lighting After Dark show. ALA is excited to join Dallas Market Center again to bring Lightovation attendees a fun-filled Lighting After Dark party. Hear Danni and Kris as they perform a range of popular music and help us celebrate the upcoming ALA Annual Conference, which will be hosted in Austin, Texas, the Live Music Capital of the World®, Sept. 11-13. Attendees will enjoy food and drinks, as well as ALA Conference giveaways and other prizes. All Lightovation attendees are invited to this free event within walking distance of the DMC, just bring your Lightovation badge.
