Live Residential Lighting Training Course Scheduled for June

ALA announced the next Lighting Specialist training course will be hosted June 3- 6, 2019, at Acuity Brands Lighting in Des Plaines, Ill., near Chicago.

This intensive, four-day workshop explores fundamental and advanced lighting principles, design techniques and sales strategies. Upon successful completion of the final exam administered at the end of the training period, graduates of this course are awarded certificates qualifying them as ALA Lighting Specialists.

The Lighting Specialist designation is an advanced accreditation earned by studying the comprehensive Residential Lighting Training Manual and passing a final exam. This upcoming course will be taught by Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, IES.

Gloria De Anda, LS, of Arizona Lighting Co. of Yuma, Inc., successfully completed last year’s course, saying, "I can’t say enough good things about our instructor, Mr. Rey-Barreau. His passion for lighting, as well as helping our clients and ourselves in an ever-changing industry really shows."

The four-day course is recommended for professionals from all areas of the industry who have basic lighting knowledge and would benefit from more extensive training in light sources, light fixtures, residential lighting design, technological updates, and effective sales techniques. "The participants in the class are from different avenues of the lighting industry," added De Anda. "It is marvelous when we reach a subject in the class and one of the participants is in that field; wow, do we benefit from that."

Member cost for the course is $525, plus travel expenses. All attendees must also bring their own copies of the current training manual, which can be purchased at a discount for course participants upon registration.
