Remembering Jeffey Engel

ALA member and industry veteran Jeff Engel of Laurent Lyons Lighting passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of the year. Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pa., Engel attended Allegheny College. After graduating, he moved to South Florida in 1985 to begin his career in the reprography and blue printing business.

His years building contacts with the engineering and architectural community would serve him well after he transitioned into the lighting business. For nearly 20 years, Engel built a strong following among designers, specifies and his beloved lighting showroom accounts. He is remembered fondly by his peers for being honorable, reliable and compassionate, always willing to help a customer or friend no matter the time of day or week they called on him.

Those who knew him best remember Engel as a true professional, a dear friend, a loving and loyal son, a joyful uncle and a great brother. In addition to his many friends, Engel is survived by his mother, Margorie; sister, Sara; brothers, Bill and Mike; along with five nieces and seven nephews. A memorial service in Engel’s honor was held Jan. 26 at All Saints Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeffrey Engel can be made to the Bonnet House by visiting bonnethouse.org.
