ALA Women in Lighting Announces Dynamic Networking Event for Upcoming ALA Conference

ALA Women in Lighting Announces Dynamic Networking Event for Upcoming ALA Conference

The ALA Women in Lighting (WIL) Committee announced plans for its popular reception during the ALA Conference, Sept. 22-24, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla.

Open to all Conference attendees regardless of gender, the reception will start with informal networking at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, immediately following afternoon breakout sessions. Starting at 4 p.m., participants will be coordinated into competitive teams for a series of minute-to-win-it tabletop games, hilariously incorporating common household items and office supplies to execute silly stunts.

The fun will continue with a speed networking session that follows the games, all facilitated by a group led by Cheryl Broughton, a former aerialist-turned-mentor and author of “Your Epic Encore,” a guide for starting over and following your dreams.

“After five years of featuring exceptional speakers at Conference, the WIL Events Committee is shaking things up this year,” says Women in Lighting Co-Chair Tammy Pegg, vice president of Spectra. “It’s game on! This year, we’re ditching the traditional format and inviting you to join us for an action-packed experience where you'll be out of your seats and actively engaging with your peers. Compete with your team for the chance to win gold, silver and bronze medals in a series of fun and dynamic challenges. We don’t want anyone to miss this opportunity for networking, teamwork, and a whole lot of fun! It’s going to be an event like none other.”

Along with refreshments and these planned activities, attendees will also enjoy a chance to win two free hotel nights at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas during January 2025 Lightovation, courtesy of Dallas Market Center.

They will also have the opportunity to support Women in Lighting’s official 2024 charity the Tory Burch Foundation with a package purchase of a commemorative 2024 Women in Lighting T-shirt and enamel pin for $20, with all proceeds going to the Foundation thanks to event sponsors Dallas Market Center, Maxim Lighting and Hubbardton Forge. More than $1,200 has already been raised this year toward a $4,000 goal to support the organization that provides access to capital, education and community for women entrepreneurs.

The Women in Lighting reception will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with a group photo, continuing a tradition from past events.
