Preparing for Title 20

The first phase of compliance for Title 20 takes effect on Jan. 1, 2018. The California Energy Commission (CEC) has put out a six-step checklist to help manufacturers prepare for product certification.

Step 1

Create a new user account with the CEC (manufacturer, third-party certifier, test lab) or add a user to an existing company account.

Step 2

Determine if your device is regulated under Title 20.

Step 3

Select an approved test lab for your device, or apply to become a test lab.

Step 4

Using the test method cited in Title 20, Section 1604, test models at a lab that is currently approved by the CEC to conduct the test(s) for your device.

Step 5

Complete the certification submittal forms using data from an approved test lab.

Step 6

Once data is accepted (successful submittal), verify that the model number(s) appears in the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDBS).
