AMERICAN LIGHTING ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NEW GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS CONSULTANT

The American Lighting Association (ALA) has contracted Palmer Schoening of Schoening Strategies in Washington, D.C., as Government Affairs Consultant. Schoening has worked with several small business trade associations, including helping to provide a Washington, D.C., presence for the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) for over a decade. Mr. Schoening was strongly recommended by our partner association NAED and other allies as a skilled and experienced representative for the industry.

Mr. Schoening also runs the Family Business Coalition, of which ALA is a member. The Family Business Coalition fights for tax relief for America’s family-owned and operated businesses. With so many multigenerational businesses within the ALA membership, Mr. Schoening’s expertise will help the industry during this important year in tax policy, as many of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are scheduled to expire.

Schoening said “I look forward to serving the unique membership of ALA, which includes manufacturers, retailers, and manufacturers’ representatives, all of whom have a significant stake in the current policy battles happening on Capitol Hill. ALA needs to have a seat at the table during this important year and into the future.”

“I am excited to welcome Palmer to the ALA team,” said Laurie Gross, ALA Interim President and CEO. “He brings valuable knowledge and experience to ALA’s government affairs efforts as we continue to chart our path forward.”

Mr. Schoening maintains top-tier relationships with the administration and other key members of Congress. He has testified in front of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and holds degrees from Hillsdale College and George Mason University. Mr. Schoening has experience establishing a D.C. presence for organizations and will ensure ALA does not miss a beat during this transition period.

Mr. Schoening will step in immediately to advocate for ALA on Capitol Hill, manage the ALA Political Action Committee, and enhance ALA’s overall legislative efforts in Washington, DC.
