Text of a basic comment:
Lighting affects everyone, every day. Our consumer demands for better products are at an all-time high. To keep up, our company is evolving, producing wonderfully designed, innovative and energy efficient products. Enjoying the strong economy, the American consumer is responding to the evolution of our product offerings with great buying power. Business is good for now, but that could all be jeopardized by tariffs.

If enacted, our business, as well as the greater lighting industry, stands to be adversely affected by the 10-and-25 percent tariffs proposed in List 3 (Docket Number USTR-2018-0026). The imposition of tariffs on lighting products, as well as a wide variety of consumer goods, will increase prices and decrease discretionary household funds. Increased prices hurt everyone and reduced funds mean reduced buying power – hurting the American owned and operated businesses of the lighting industry.

Unlike other industries, the lighting industry is not experiencing the wide theft of intellectual property. Additionally, the loss of jobs to China is not an issue. Lighting products imported into the U.S. from China are produced by American companies. In fact, American manufacturers are looking to hire highly skilled workers, but those plans are likely to stall if the proposed tariffs are finalized.

It is imperative that the trade imbalance between the U.S. and China be addressed. However, as far as my business is concerned, tariffs are NOT the answer. On behalf of the ____ [insert number of employees] of ____ [insert company name] we request that you remove all relevant HTS lighting codes when List 3 is finalized.

(A full list of the relevant HTS lighting codes can be found in the submitted comments of the American Lighting Association)
