Good design begins with a great lighting plan. From ambient lighting, to statement chandeliers and trendy LED fixtures, layering your home with light is the key to creating spaces that welcome, comfort and inspire. Recently, Executive Editor of Lighting Magazine and The Meredith Luxury Home Portfolio Samantha Hart sat down with ALA to provide an update on the latest trends in lighting.
Outdoor is in
Today, outdoor living areas are viewed as full-fledged rooms with beautiful light fixtures, furniture and accessories that complement a home’s overall décor. Outdoor-rated light fixtures have kept up with the trend of bringing the indoors out. Stunning designs in durable finishes like bronze, copper and matte black create seamless connections between indoor and out.
Style for everyone
Inside, it’s all about mixed materials like wood, metal, glass, and even concrete, which all come together to create lighting looks that resemble works of art. Today, unique finishes paired with beautiful shapes and styles create details that work well in any space, from traditional to modern.
Trends like shimmering metallic finishes, strung beads and organic crystals are bringing back the glamour of the 1930’s, while LEDs are changing the way we think about lighting entirely. These new designs feature razor-thin profiles, and bold geometry. To add to the beauty, LED bulbs last up to 50 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs, while cutting back on energy usage.
