Rick Wiedemer to be Inducted into ALA Lighting Hall of Fame

ALA recently announced Rick Wiedemer, chief executive officer of Hinkley Lighting, as the 2019 Lighting Hall of Fame inductee. Wiedemer will be honored in front of family, friends and industry colleagues during the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., on the evening of Sept. 17.

Wiedemer began his career in 1969 after graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Starting in the factory and working his way through each manufacturing and office department, Rick developed a deep passion for sales, marketing and product development. He now spends most of his time in business development, sales and marketing.

Throughout his career, Wiedemer has traveled extensively and has made it a point to visit the vast majority of Hinkley’s customers in their home locations. Since the beginning of his career, he has been committed to building meaningful relationships with customers, as well as competitors in the industry.

“I am very excited about Rick’s induction into the ALA Lighting Hall of Fame,” said Eric Jacobson, president and CEO of ALA. “I’ve known Rick for many years, and his unbridled enthusiasm about the lighting industry and his company always shines through. He has given much to benefit the lighting industry and this honor is well deserved.”

Over the years, Wiedemer’s strong leadership skills and vast industry knowledge have allowed him to serve the industry, and specifically ALA, in a variety of roles, including many years supporting the ALA Membership Campaign and Awards & Recognition committees. Most recently, Wiedemer took on the role of ALA Conference Committee Chair, leading the 2019 Conference Committee as they planned this year’s event in Phoenix.

“Rick has been a remarkable leader for Hinkley and the American Lighting Association,” added Jacobson. “His dedication is inspiring and I know he is positively impacting generations of future lighting industry leaders.”

Rick has also served on several local community and hospital boards during his career, and he is a longstanding member of the Executive Advisory Board at Ohio University. He currently serves on the Lighting Board of the Dallas Market Center.

Throughout the years, Rick has achieved many awards and accolades, including the ALA designation of Certified Lighting Consultant, the association’s highest possible recognition. Under his leadership, Hinkley Lighting has earned countless awards, including Lighting Manufacturer of the Year by the Dallas Market Center, the Family Business Achievement Award by Smart Business Magazine, and Top Place to Work by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Wiedemer calls Cleveland, Ohio, home, and is proud to live and work where Hinkley Lighting opened its doors nearly 100 years ago. All three of his children, Kristi, Jess and Eric, have played key roles at Hinkley Lighting. With more than 15 years of experience, Jess assumed the role of president in January 2015. After a successful law career, Eric now serves as vice president and general counsel. The third and fourth generations work together to create a true family culture at Hinkley – one of Wiedemer’s most valued accomplishments.
