The Retail Doctor to Give Keynote Address During ALA Conference
ALA recently announced The Retail Doctor, Bob Phibbs, as keynote speaker for the ALA Annual Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., Sept. 15 - 17, 2019. Phibbs is well-known across various industries for helping brick-and-mortar retailers beat online competition through exceptional customer experiences.
During conference, he will cover key action items ALA members can implement in their businesses to compete with online retailers and exceed customer expectations. Phibbs bases his talks off of the knowledge that brick-and-mortar retailers are facing extremely difficult and uncertain times, where margins are shrinking and online competition is fierce. However, his messaging is not to try to beat online retailers on price. Rather, Phibbs message is to change the way in which you think about in-store versus online experiences.
"Brick and mortar can give shoppers something no online retailer can, a feeling, a feeling they matter," says Phibbs. "People who feel they matter buy more." During his presentation, Phibbs will redefine how to create an exceptional customer experience, one that grows sales and gives retailers the tools they need to succeed. Attendees will walk away with a number of simple, yet powerful action steps and takeaways to make their shoppers’ experiences extraordinary.
Phibbs explains that brick-and-mortar stores are the billboard to a brand and the embodiment of what that brand stands for. "While you do need to have an online strategy that connects your physical store to your online store so that you can be wherever your shopper is to fulfill their desire for a product, you can’t allow your stores to get the short shrift" Phibbs says.
For the past 30 years, Phibbs has been a champion for brick-and-mortar retailers, igniting sales increases of 20 to 50 percent for his clients. He was named one of the top retail influencers of 2016 to complement his role as an American Express merchant advisor, IBM retail futurist, and RetailWire BrainTrust partner. Phibbs’ work has been featured on ABC, MSNBC, Fox News and PBS and in articles published by Entrepreneur, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He also performs business makeovers for The Los Angeles Times and received the highest sales increase award from the number-one shopping mall in America.
